Hi, what are you looking for?

Michael Jordan To Grace Cover of NBA 2K11?

It looks like the GOAT basketball video game franchise just validated themselves as exactly that by linking up with the GOAT ball player.

It has been reported today by multiple sources that the company responsible for the most realistic basketball video game of all time has signed Michael Jordan as their new spokesperson, and MJ will appear on the cover of this year’s edition of the game.  While many were speculating that the franchise was considering LeBron James, Derrick Rose, and Tyreke Evans for the cover, 2K decided to go with the GOAT (obviously).

ESPN Reports:

In addition to acting as cover model for “NBA 2K11,” the speculation is that Jordan will also be digitized into a playable character. This means gamers will become the virtual MJ in hopes of reliving some of his trademark moments.

There’s more. I’ve even heard whispers that 2K has been in negotiations with several players (both teammates and opponents) from the Jordan era to appear in “2K11” to help gamers and history buffs accurately recreate the heated competition between the classic Bulls and rivals like the Celtics, Knicks and Cavaliers. But since 2K needs to ink all former players to individual contracts, it’s still up in the air whom the company will be able to sign in time to appear in the game.

NBA 2K11 is expected to release in October, just as the league’s preseason games tip off.

I don’t know about y’all, but this just made my year.  It always frustrated me as a child when I bought a basketball game and MJ was never in any of the games, and you had to go into the create-a-player mode and ended up with a dude looking like Nick Anderson with a Bulls jersey on and had to pretend he was MJ… Either that or pop in a copy of Michael Jordan’s “Chaos in the Windy City”..SMH.  Up until now, Jordan has only been playable in 4 games ever: NBA Live 2000 (Unlockable), NBA Live 2002 (Wizards), NBA Street Vol. 1, and NBA Street Vol. 2.

As an avid 2K player (flysociety204 on Xbox live, if you feel like getting embarrassed), this is symbolic of the franchise solidifying itself as the best basketball video game franchise of all time, and this move will most definitely be beneficial for all parties involved.

On a side note, I guess Jordan had to try and recoup some of that money he paid for the Bobcats somehow… this should help.
