It’s hard to disagree with that statement considering Harrison knocked out not one, but two Cleveland Browns players this past Sunday.
The league is planning on looking at all the helmet to helmet hits, that have a lot of NFL Players during the Zab Judah dance.
Defensive players like Harrison, feel that they aren’t doing anything wrong. Here is what he had to say.
“I don’t want to injure anybody,” Harrison said following Pittsburgh’s 28-10 victory. “There’s a big difference between being hurt and being injured. You get hurt, you shake it off and come back the next series or the next game. I try to hurt people.”
“If I get fined for that, it’s going to be a travesty,” Harrison said. “They didn’t call [a penalty] on that. There’s no way I could be fined for that. It was a good, clean, legit hit. … I didn’t hit that hard, to be honest with you. When you get a guy on the ground, it’s a perfect tackle.”
I believe that the equipment these guys are using has to be looked at. The helmet is more of a weapon than protection these days.
Until the equipment is upgraded, no matter how you try to police the players, you are still going to have concussions.
Many concussions aren’t from a player launching himself into a tackle, but from a player head bouncing off the turf or being hit at a certain angle.
The NFL needs to do something, but they need to just make sure they cover all the bases.
Also if I am a NFL player, I would refuse to sign any new union agreement unless it includes “guaranteed contracts“. Out of all the major sport leagues, the NFL gets paid the least, but it is the most dangerous.
They need to protect themselves with the next collective bargaining agreement the same way they need to protect themselves on the field.
