I am sure Aaron Rodgers signs ton of autographs and I am sure he ignores tons of autograph seekers, but he picked the wrong person this time.
As the Packers were coming back from their huge victory over the Falcons and elderly cancer patient and huge Packer fan Jan Cavanaugh was waiting for them. Rodgers didn’t pay much attention to her as he went about his way.
Mike Florio from Profootballtalk.com was not pleased.
Rodgers makes a lot of money because people are willing to pay to watch him do what he does, and because they’re willing to sit and watch him do it on television, while being bombarded with advertisements and networks promos.
So football players need to be willing to pause and sign an autograph or two from time to time. Especially when the person seeking the autograph is female, is wearing copious amounts of NFL-licensed pink apparel, and has very short gray hair.
There’s a pretty good chance that any person fitting that description is a cancer patient. And if the NFL is going to allow the official uniform to be infiltrated by pink patches and gloves and cleats and stripes every October, high-profile NFL players need to be willing to stop and sign an autograph for someone who fits the profile of a person who is in the fight of her life.
The station that profile Miss Cavanaugh reedited the video to take Rodgers out of it. That is pretty weak on their part. Regardless if you think people are making a big deal or not, the cover up is always a bigger story than the crime.
You don’t want to make a blanket assessment on Rodgers based on a split second decision, but remember just because a player does all the proper things on the field, doesn’t automatically make them a great person off of it.
