After the initial story of Redskins wide receiver Brandon Banks getting stabbed outside of a DC Nightclub came out, it was quickly spun that he only came to the aid of friend who was viciously attacked by knife wielding assailant Jason Shorter.
Unfortunately I have witnessed many of these type of altercations in my life and I knew it wasn’t that cut and dry. As more details have come out, it appears that there is a lot of fault that can go around.
Surveillance cameras appear to show Banks and his friend, Christopher Nixon, instigating a fight with 24-year-old Jason Shorter, who is accused of stabbing Banks and Nixon outside The Park at 14th nightclub at about 3 a.m. Saturday.
When police arrived at the scene Banks lifted his shirt to reveal his injuries and then identified Shorter as the person who had stabbed him, telling officers that his assailant was dressed in white, NBC Washington’s Derrick Ward reported.
Review of security video shows Nixon throwing a punch after Shorter allegedly pulled a knife from his pocket, opened it and, according to court documents, “armed himself by holding it behind his back.”
It doesn’t appear that Banks is part of the problem, the issue for Banks is that his friend, Christopher Nixon is selfish. As soon as it was established that the other guy had a knife it was time to leave.
Get in your car and call it a night.
Punching a guy with a knife in his hand, isn’t smart on any level. Considering your friend is a NFL player whose entire future is ahead of him, makes Nixon’s decision even more idiotic.
Banks wasn’t going to let his friend get stabbed to death, so I understand him jumping in, but it is Nixon that put everyone in danger.
Not my job to tell someone who their friends should be, but if your boy can’t handle his liquor, himself in public or constantly is trying to channel his inner Tupac, you might need to leave him at home.
