If you want to fake an injury, Monday Night Football — in front of a national audience — is not the place to do it. During this week’s past Rams-Giants matchup, two Giants players, including safety Deon Grant, were caught apparently faking injuries as they spontaneously fell down just as the Rams were running their no-huddle offense.
Obviously, the league caught notice of this and today they sent a memo to all 32 NFL teams concerning the faking of injuries. Possible repercussions include “fines, suspensions, and or possible loss of draft picks”. Associated Press has the details Click here:
The memo from the league said:
“Going forward, be advised that should the league office determine that there is reasonable cause, all those suspected of being involved in faking injuries will be summoned promptly to this office … to discuss the matter. Those found to be violators will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action for conduct detrimental to the game.”
Wow.
Good to see that the league is taking appropriate action against this defensive tactic. It will be interesting to see how the league classifies “faking an injury”. What if a player drops to the turf out of nowhere but eventually obtains information claiming tangible proof of an injury? At the very least, hopefully this memo scares teams enough for them to stop their players from feigning injuries.
