It all started Game 5 against the Boston Celtics in 2010.
Lebron had a very off game, it was unusual game because Lebron’s mind seem to be somewhere else. Was it his phantom elbow injury or something else?
Then a site came out with a report whose source was a Cavaliers maintenance man that Lebron had caught his mom Gloria sleeping with his teammate like Delonte West.
The rumor caught fire and has dogged both Lebron and Delonte since then. Numerous jokes and photoshops were spawn during the Summer of Lebron. I went to a Lakers game earlier this year against the Mavericks and there were kids in the arenas screaming at Delonte…
“How is your step son Lebron doing!!!!”
Delonte West hasn’t said much about and has giving some half hearted denials, but now he wants to clear it up once and for all.
“It’s affected me,” West says. “Everywhere I go, first question, ‘Don’t tell me you did that.’ ”
“That” would be the rumor that during the 2010 playoffs, West had a sexual encounter with Cleveland Cavaliers teammate LeBron James’ mother, Gloria.West says he wants to permanently squash the rumor not just for his sake, but mostly for James and his mother, who West says expressed nothing but kindness during his three seasons in Cleveland.
In fact, West says Gloria James reminded him of his single mother, Delphina Addison, who raised Delonte and his siblings to be “happy-poor, just enjoy life and the blessings that God has given us.
“If we want to continue to grow as a human race, what are we teaching our kids if we try to make humor and fun out of stuff like that?” West says of the rumor. “Number one, something like that never happened. I don’t know where they got that from.
“For a strong black woman like that, for people to try to tear her down, that’s terrible. That’s terrible in so many ways.”
It would have been nice for Delonte to say this two years ago, because now this is the least of Lebron’s worries.
Do I believe him?
It isn’t so much as I believe him as I can’t see Lebron’s mom no matter how crazy she appears to be sleeping with one of his teammates.
But we will never know……
