Jeremy Lin to Explore His Options Says Coming Back to Knicks Isn’t Guaranteed

Jeremy Lin is the perfect case study in media and fan overreaction.

He had a solid two week run that turned into back to back SI covers, free penthouse, ESPN asking if he was better than Magic Johnson, rumors of dating Kim Kardashian, multiple people getting fired and disciplined in the media over bad jokes and puns and that is just 5% of all that happened.

All for a solid two weeks of work in the NYC.

Coming off a knee injury Lin is going to explore if he should take his talents elsewhere.

Jeremy Lin will be a restricted free agent this summer, and many see it as a foregone conclusion that the point guard will return to the New York Knicks, but not everyone feels so strongly.

“I don’t expect that. We’re not anticipating that’s going to happen. We don’t have assurances of anything,” Lin’s agent, Roger Montgomery, said in an interview with the New York Post. “I know history shows most restricted free agents go back to their team, but I’m not going to assume anything. We’re waiting to see what happens.”

Lin is a restricted free agent, which means the Knicks can match any offer he receives. It is conceivable a team would be willing to overpay to make sure that the Knicks don’t match, but we will see.

Lin, like a lot of Carmelo Anthony’s teammates don’t seem to mesh well with his playing style, but if he does come back it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out for a full year.
