Transferring from two seasons at Auburn University, Arkansas State University dismissed Michael Dyer today. Dyer was released due to “violating team rules”. The University released a statement at 7pm:
“I am truly disappointed that it didn’t work out here at ASU for Mike,” ASU head coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement. “I wish Mike nothing but the best in the future.”
The University also commented that they won’t release anymore statements.
Dyer was in previous trouble when a handgun that was used by four former Auburn football players in an armed robbery was traced back to him. Although he was never charged, Dyer admitted to a jury he was smoking marijuana with the four teammates prior to the robbery. Then further admitted to letting Antonio Goodwin borrow the gun. Although he wasn’t charged he suffered at the hands of the NCAA. Afterwards, he was suspended from Auburns trip to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. Shortly after Dyer announced that he would be following Offensive Coordinator Gus Malzahn to ASU.
Dyer’s punishment from the NCAA already had him sitting out the 2012 season making him redshirt for the season and being eligible to play in 2013 with two years of eligibility remaining. Now it looks like he won’t be playing anywhere anytime soon.
Its a shame such a great talent is hindering his possibilities in life being irresponsible and reckless.
