Doc Rivers Blasts Lakers Over Treatment of Phil Jackson

Tuesday Boston Celtics Head Coach Doc Rivers went on Chris Russo’s Mad Dog Radio (SirusXM) and said what every Laker Fan is thinking. Commenting on the firing of Mike Brown, the flirting with Phil Jackson, and the hiring on Mike D’Antoni. Transcribed by the Los Angles Times

“I didn’t like the way it was done,” said Rivers. “I don’t think you embarrass anybody….“Whether you like Phil or not, he’s won a lot of titles and I think he was owed more than that treatment, in my opinion, especially [from] that franchise,” continued Rivers.

Rivers shows much respect in the interview and knows that it’s a professional business feelings will get hurt and while being showed the door sometimes little respect. So the Lakers went to Jackson knowing that the fans would want the Zen Master back but silently hoping he does not want the job. For the main reason being owner Jerry Buss was never a Phil Jackson kind of guy.

Little did they know Phil was very interested in the job and they had a very big decision to make. With the season for the Lakers only being eleven games in and only one game under D’Antoni its impossible to say if he’s just keeping the seat warm or going to be the Phil-in.
