There’s one less BCS coaching vacancy in college football. Per CollegeFootballTalk.com and USA Today Sports, N.C. State has hired former Northern Illinois head coach Dave Doeren to replace Tom O’Brien. Here’s N.C. State athletic director Debbie Yow on the hire:
“Dave Doeren is a highly motivated overachiever who shares our goals to pursue aggressively a high level of achievement in the classroom and on the field of competition.”
Doeren is a former Wisconsin defensive coordinator who went 23-4 in two seasons at Northern Illinois. Vanderbilt coach James Franklin, Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes, and Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris had all been linked to this opening.
