Duce Staley was a pretty good tough, hard-nosed running back when he played for the Eagles, so now as a running back coach, Staley has a pretty keen eye for talent and ability.
Staley was talking to Philly Mag recently, and jumped on a limb for the Eagles current starting running back Shady McCoy. While discussing LeSean McCoy, Staley put it out there flat-out, saying McCoy “could be the best running back to ever play the game.”
“He can be the best,” said the Eagles’ new running backs coach without hesitation. “He can be the best to play the game.”
Staley who started for the Eagles from 1997-2003 and is now the new running backs coach, knows a lot about the position, and expects nothing but the best from McCoy.
“I demand a lot from the running backs,” he said. “One question when I walk into the room that I ask them all the time: ‘Who wants to be second? Who wants to be a backup?’ And if a guy raises his hand, I don’t want him in my room.”
McCoy is coming off a down season after rushing 200 times for 840 yards. We’ll see what kind of effect Staley’s presence has on him.
