The Carolina Panthers need to surround Cam Newton with more weapons, and Steve Smith isn’t getting any younger. There are a couple of quality receivers available in free agency, including Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, and Greg Jennings to name the top few.
NFL.com asked head coach Ron Rivera about the prospects of targeting one of them, and Rivera was especially giddy about one name, Mike Wallace.
“You’re warm, but you know, what’s going to be interesting is how things unfold once we get to March 12,” Rivera said on “NFL AM” from the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “There’s a lot of things that are out there that we have to really take into consideration. You know, we’ll see how things are going to affect us when we get to the 12th.”
The Panthers are in salary cap hell, and there’s no relief in sight, considering they plan to keep both high paid running backs.
Carolina may be more inclined to try their luck in the draft.
