Former Duke guard and current Duke assistant coach Chris Collins has hired to be the new head coach at Northwestern according to CBSSports.com.
Collins met with the Northwestern administration on Monday and an official announcement is expected to come on Wednesday.
Collins is a former Illinois Mr. Basketball and McDonald’s All-American. He was one of the most hated guards in Duke history by opposing fans during the mid 90’s.
Collins has been on Mike Krzyzewski’s staff since 2000, was probably always a head coach in waiting. He was also an assistant under Tommy Amaker at Seton Hall for two seasons.
Collins of course is the son of 76ers head coach and legend Doug Collins.
Collins will replace Bill Carmody, who was never able to get the Northwestern into the NCAA tournament in his 13 seasons at the helm.
We can definitely expect Collins to bring Duke’s uptempo approach to Northwestern with him. Which former player will Coach K add to the staff now?
