Superman is much more interesting when Batman is involved in his universe.
Instead of taking the risk of a straight sequel to Man of Steel (check my review here), Warner Bros have decided to put them together in one movie.

The Verge has some quotes from director Zach Snyder.
Director Zach Snyder revealed the news to a packed panel at Comic-Con, with a teaser image showing the iconic Batman symbol overlaid with Superman’s emblem. “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter,” Snyder said in a statement provided by The Hollywood Reporter. “Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest superheroes in the world.”
If I was in charge, I would use the storyline of Superman going bad and Batman trying to figure out a way to save him, but I am not in charge, so we will see how it turns out.
What we do know is whatever the plot it will do massive box office numbers.
