According to a report via Connor Orr of The Star Ledger, the New York Giants may have interest in bringing back their former defensive end Osi Umenyiora if his situation with the Atlanta Falcons doesn’t get resolved.
Osi Umenyiora’s current team wants him to take a pay cut before returning next season. But if things don’t work out and the Falcons cut him, the 32-year-old pass rusher wouldn’t mind a return to the team with which he won two Super Bowls.
And the feeling might be mutual.
Umenyiora would entertain an offer to return to the Giants — and the Giants would at least investigate — if his situation in Atlanta came to an end, according to two people familiar with the situation. The people requested anonymity in order to speak freely on the matter.
If Justin Tuck ends up leaving via free agency, the acquisition of Umenyiora would be a big coup for the Giants. The lack of an effective pass rush continues to be a problem and his return would help in that regard.
