Despite all 32 NFL training camps being in full swing, Tim Tebow has yet to receive a call to join any of them for a tryout, even as he trains for a return that probably will never happen. Tebow, his 47.9% career completion percentage, and 75.3 passer rating, haven’t been in the league since 2012 with the Jets, something that Tebow’s former coach Urban Meyer finds baffling for some strange reason.
“I still don’t get that part of it,” Meyer said Tuesday at Big Ten Media Days. “He’s the second-most efficient passer ever to play college football.”
“He had really good personnel around him (at Florida) and we utilized his skill very well,” Meyer said. “I think in a traditional setting, it is difficult, but there’s a lot of non-traditional offenses now in the NFL.”
“He’ll be successful in whatever he does, but he’s such a good player,” Meyer said. “I just wish it would work out for him.”
Meyer is obviously biased when it comes to Tebow, whom he won a pair of National Championships with at Florida, but it’s apparent to everyone outside of Meyer that Tebow’s game, while phenomenal in college, just didn’t translate to the NFL. Best to just stick to his ESPN gig for now, and focus on being the best college football analyst he can be.
