I am not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe. This has been going on for five years now and until I see Mayweather and Pacquiao in the ring I simply won’t believe it is happening.
With that being said it is my job to report, so here is what Bob Arum is saying about a potential Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight in 2015 via SFGate.com.
Boxing promoter Bob Arum told The San Francisco Chronicle Thursday that he is “very optimistic” that a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will happen in the first six months of 2015. He said the respective fighters’ television networks — HBO for Pacquiao and Showtime/CBS for Mayweather — have met and discussed the super fight.
“Both networks want this fight to happen,” Arum said. “All signs seem to point to the fight happening early next year.”
“There is a sell-by date, where it becomes (after that) ‘Who cares?’ It has to happen by the first six months of next year,” Arum said. “And if it happens, there should be a provision with a different percentage for the rematch. So that the winner is rewarded for winning the fight.
“I would love to see these guys fight twice next year.”
Pacquiao and Mayweather have basically run out of viable opponents for super fights. Mayweather’s guarantee is running out with Showtime and if he wants one more huge payday and cement his legacy, he should fight Pacquiao, but they should have fought years ago, so don’t hold your breath.
