It’s not often times you hear the family of a victim of drunk driving be supportive of the person accused, but that just happens to be the case of Stacey Jackson. Jackson is the mother of Jerry Brown, who was killed when his best friend, Josh Brent, was driving under the influence and crashed his vehicle. Brent has been suspended for 10 games but will be able to play football again this year for the Cowboys. Stacey Jackson gave her thoughts on the situation.
“I’m very happy Josh has been reinstated with the Dallas Cowboys!” Jackson said. “My beautiful son is in Heaven now, and Josh has to be given a chance to live his life and do something for someone else! We all make mistakes, and we all have an entrance date and an exit day. Although I miss Jerry every day, I know he would be very happy that Josh has another chance to play football!”
“Josh doesn’t have to answer to you or me. He has to answer to God, about what he has done with his second chance,” Jackson said. “Who has he helped with this opportunity that he has been given! I have to answer to why I didn’t forgive him and live out my life with taking care of my family.”
Josh and Jerry had played together at the University of Illinois and remained friends while playing in the NFL. It’s a tragic story, but Josh is the one who has to live with what he has done. This isn’t the first occasion that Brent had been cited for DUI. Of all people, Stacey Jackson would be the one who would most want justice in this story, but she has chosen to forgive instead.
