This is a good lesson for Gurley. When you are high profile people will try to use your name for 15 minutes of fame even if they know they are falsely accusing you. It is sad that athletes when they are just minding their business and trying to have a good time have to deal with deranged fans, but it is something they need to be aware of.
Here is what happened to Gurley per USA Today.
Georgia star running back Todd Gurley was wrongfully accused of assault early Sunday morning at a campus bar, Athens-Clarke County police officials confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on Monday evening.
The puncher, according to police, actually was a white male.
Gurley, a Heisman candidate who ran for 208 yards and two touchdowns in Georgia’s win against Tennessee on Saturday, was accused of punching a 20-year-old Georgia student who claimed Gurley attacked him “after he took a photograph of himself with Gurley in the background,” according to a police report first obtained by The Athens Banner-Herald.
Gurley agreed to be interviewed by police after the accusation and told a detective that the student had been trying to take selfies with his phone while Gurley was in the background with his hometown friends.
Police reviewed surveillance footage from the Bourbon Street Bar & Grill in Athens and determined it wasn’t Gurley who punched the accuser, according to the report. The accuser identified in the video was Caucasian. Gurley told police he reached down to get the student’s hat and he then yelled a racial slur at Gurley before being punched by a white male. The student was kicked out of the bar afterward, according to police.
I don’t condone violence, but the student who was trying to take the selfies, let’s just say I don’t feel story that he got punched and frankly he should be arrested for filing false police report.
