Former UCF defensive coordinator Paul Ferraro is suing the school for breach of contract after he said he was fired for no reason. In the suit, in addition for asking for lost wages, Ferraro makes some pretty hellacious and damning accusations about head coach George O’Leary.
The suit alleges that O’Leary used a derogatory word for African-Americans and called the NFL “one big ‘Ru-Ru’ tribe.” The suit also alleges O’Leary once advised coaches to check African-American players “to make sure their gums are blue, because they are bigger, faster and stronger than (African-American players) with red gums.”
UCF says that Ferraro resigned from his position and that his allegations of racism and abuse are not true.
“UCF immediately investigated the allegations Mr. Ferraro made when he abruptly abandoned his job,” Heston emailed. “The university’s Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action office found the allegations to be untrue.
“None of the individuals alleged to have been the subject of, or to have overheard, these supposed statements corroborated Mr. Ferraro’s claims. In fact, until seeking compensation after abandoning his job, it does not appear he ever discussed this with anyone
These remarks are more offensive to me than what Donald Sterling and Danny Ferry said combined. They’re reminiscent of a time when enslaved Africans were inspected like cattle and although the university says their investigation found they had no validity, if it comes out later that even a shred of this is true, O’Leary should never coach again.
