Sarah Spain wasn’t the first to say it, but does this theory really hold any merit?
Is the adidas brand sneaker a cause for concern when it comes to injuries to high profile players?
Derrick Rose has suffered two major knee injuries, and hasn’t been able to shake the injury bug ever since he signed a mega shoe deal with Adidas.
Many in the sneaker industry believe the Adidas brand is the main cause for Rose’s injuries. It was only two-years ago that Nike designer Jason Petrie sent out an epic tweet shortly after Derrick Rose tore his ACL in 2012, saying that the former MVP ‘chose poorly’ by not signing with Nike.
The impact of that message is still being felt.
On today’s broadcast of ESPN’s hour-long debate show His & Hers, anchor Sarah Spain connected Rose’s latest injury, a hamstring strain, to his adidas sneakers.
“My conspiracy theory, which I’ve been fighting off because I’ve got no issues with adidas and I don’t know how they’re made, but those shoes advertise as ‘lighter than yours,’ lightest shoes on the market,” said Spain. “And ever since he started that big adidas deal and changing shoes all the time, things started happening.”
I think it’s a mute point. Kevin Durant wears Nike and just suffered a serious break in his foot. Stephen Curry is now healthy after leaving Nike for Underarmour.
