With Week 12 in the books, and the vast majority of fantasy leagues getting ready for the fantasy playoffs in week 13, the waiver wire is now more important than ever. Teams in contention for the playoffs will need to not only pick up players that can help you this week, but also players who can make an impact in weeks 14-17.
Quarterbacks to Add
1. Ryan Tannehill, Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill comes into Week 13 as the #8 ranked QB in fantasy points per game, but is somehow only owned in 49.6% of ESPN leagues. Tannehill has been amazing since coach Joe Philbin threatened to bench him in the media before the Dolphins trip to London to face the Raiders. Tannehill has established a level of consistency that puts him squarely in the conversation amongst the best young QBs. His 17.2 fantasy points per game average is more than Colin Kaepernick and Cam Newton. Add a Ryan Tannehill in all leagues and plug him into your lineup for week 13 with his matchup against the Jets.
2. Zach Mettenberger, Titans: Mettenberger, a 6th round pick, has emerged as the most effecient QB of the 2014 draft class. Mettenberger actually looks like a competent NFL QB, and the Tennessee Titans appear to be throwing their organizational support behind the guy they hope to lead the franchise into the future. As far as fantasy goes, Mettenberger has been over 15 total points in 3 of his 4 starts. Mettenberger is widely available in leagues with an ownership percentage of 4.1%. Add him in deeper and 2 QB formats.
Running Backs to Add
1. Latavius Murray, Raiders: Murray was featured in this space last week, and responded with an amazing performance against the chiefs, and it only took him a quarter of action to do it. Murray had 4 carries for 112 yards and 2 TDs before exciting the game with a concussion. The Raiders aren’t playing for much of anything, so Murray should get plenty of work from weeks 13-17.
2. LaGarrette Blount, Patriots: Blount basically got fired from his job and got a promotion in the matter of a week. Blount was cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers for leaving the field after not receiving playing time, and was cut by Mike Tomlin the following day. He cleared a waivers and signed a 2 year contract with the New England Patriots, who he had success in the 2013 season and playoffs. Blount received 12 carries for 78 yards and 2 TDs. Jonas Gray will still be in the mix for the rest of the season, but after his alarm snafu, he might still be in the doghouse. Blount is worth a rest of season speculative add.
3. Daniel “Boom” Herron, Colts: Trent Richardson is terrible at football, and it’s only a matter of time before Herron will eat into his workload. Add him now so you can be ahead of the curve.
Wide Receivers to Add
1. Jarvis Landry, Dolphins: A key part of Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill’s success has been the emergence of LSU rookie wideout Jarvis Landry. Landry is the Dolphins slot WR and primary kickoff and return man because he has prove to have the lateral quickness to make plays in open space. Landry has scored 4 TDs in the last 3 weeks, making him a good standard league play, after already establishing himself as a good PPR play. If you are looking for decent WR3 production for the rest of season, Jarvis Landry is the answer.
2. Justin Hunter, Titans: Hunter is rushing right along with Zach Mettenberger in the Titans offense. Hunter is coming off of a 5 catch 68 yards and a TD performance against the Philadelphia Eagles. Hunter is growing as a football player in route runner in his second year out of the Univetsity of Tennessee. With Hunter being 6-3 and having good hands, he is the perfect redzone target for Zach Mettenberger to utilize.
Defense and Special Teams to Add
1.Giants: Insert D/ST playing the Jacksonville Jaguars. D/ST’s facing the Jaguars have all put up at least 10 fantasy points.
