Oklahoma will be without starting quarterback Trevor Knight as they head to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech this weekend. Knight was carted off the field this past weekend in Oklahoma’s home loss to Baylor, which leaves freshmen Cody Thomas as the starter for this weekend.
Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight has yet to be cleared to play and will miss Saturday’s game against Texas Tech Red Raiders, the team announced Thursday morning.
Coach Bob Stoops, who hasn’t revealed details about the injury other to say that a concussion had been ruled out, said the sophomore quarterback has not been “medically cleared” to play Saturday.
Knight left Saturday’s 48-14 loss to Baylor after being driven into the turf on a sack early in the fourth quarter. Knight was immobilized and carted off the field but left the facility under his own power later that day.
“He’s pretty sore right now, it’s just being able to manage it,” Stoops said Monday. “We’ll just see how he continues to respond, but it [the injury] isn’t to the head.”
Redshirt freshman quarterback Cody Thomas will get his first collegiate start as Knight’s replacement against the Red Raiders. He’s played in four games this season with his most significant playing time against Kansas State, going 2-of-2 while leading the Sooners on a touchdown drive after Knight was briefly injured against the Wildcats.
Thomas is 7-of-16 for 50 yards and one interception this season.
