NY Knicks president Phil Jackson was not amused at recent comments made by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver about the state of the Knicks and their understanding of the triangle offense. Commissioner Silver joking said that it “clearly” looked like the Knicks were still learning the offense after their loss to the Detroit Pistons. Phil Jackson responded to those comments on Monday:
“I wasn’t so humored by the commissioner actually jumping in on top of that, too,” he said. “He doesn’t need to get in on that. There’s enough focus on [the] triangle. It’s not anything. It’s a system. It’s simple basketball. Just play the game. We’re over the triangle; let’s get to business and play the right way.”
Phil Jackson has been on the record in saying that it would take Knicks players a while to understand the intricacies of the triangle offense, and it would be even more difficult with the tough early schedule that the Knicks have played. Phil finished up his comments before Monday night’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks with a bit of optimism.
“I see growth in this team and I’m optimistic,” Jackson said. “It’s not always the final score; it’s sometimes how you play. I think we’re playing the game much better and we’re getting some activity that we like to see.”
