After being drafted 3rd overall in the 2013 NFL draft, defensive end Dion Jordan has yet to live up to his potential. The big reason for that seems to be the the Dolphins just don’t know what to do with the very athletic player.
A big decision that needs to be made will be whether Jordan should be moved to linebacker. For the last two seasons, Jordan has played in 26 games but only managed to get 46 tackles and 3 sacks. The Dolphins have used him as a situational pass rusher and linebacker in a speed package.
“That’s one (decision) we’re going to keep talking through,” Dolphins vice president Mike Tannenbaum said.
Jordan’s first career start was in the last game of the 2014 season when he filled in for an injured strong side linebacker. According to scouting reports, a lot of people think that Jordan, who is 6-foot-6 and 275 would easily excel at the linebacker position.
“Obviously he’s a great pressure player in the front seven, a great athlete. We all see the play last year where he’s running 60 yards down-field covering Calvin Johnson. There aren’t many people on the planet that can do those things,” Tannenbaum said. “He’s a young athletic guy with great upside and we’ll see how that plays out.”
The Dolphins need help at linebacker after cutting veteran Philip Wheeler and trading Dannell Ellerbe to the Saints. The biggest concern however is that at 25 years old, Jordan hasn’t found his place with a team that traded up to the No. 3 pick to select him.
