If we can cut through all the BS, Stephen A. Smith can’t really say what he is thinking. He is talking around it, but what he wants to say is that Chip Kelly is trading, cutting and letting go of black players, but re-signed Riley Cooper who wanted to beat up all the n*ggers.
Of course, he can’t say that on TV, but that is what he is getting it in this video provided by the Sports Grid.
Stephen A. isn’t lying about people wondering if there are some racial overtones to the decisions. He isn’t the first person to think this (I’ve seen it on my Twitter TL for several days), he is just the only one in the mainstream media saying it outloud.
Is it true?
I would say it is unlikely, because even though Chip is shipping guys out, it isn’t like the people they are bringing in are all white, the are all black, so he is replacing black players, with black players which kills Stephen’s argument. We are so sensitive to race issues at the moment (rightfully, so I might add) that anything puts our antennas up. On the surface when you see DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy and now Jeremy Maclin leave, but Riley Cooper stays it makes you wonder. What is more likely happening is Chip doesn’t believe those players are worth the money they were getting and he can get cheaper guys to succeed in his system.
I don’t think Chip cares if they are black, white or yellow as long as they fit into his system. As far as Riley Cooper, it is a little strange he is still on the team, but mainly because he isn’t very good, not because he wanted to beat up all the n*ggers.
