Former 2-time MVP, Steve Nash officially announces his retirement in a beautifully penned letter via Derek Jeter’s “The Player’s Tribune.” The 19 year veteran decided to finally call it quits after a storied career. Nash was drafted in the esteemed 1996 draft class that boasts other future hall-of-famer’s such as Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, and Ray Allen. Nash was drafted by the Phoenix Suns, then traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 1998, where he developed a great chemistry with Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Finley. Nash then returned to Phoenix in 2004 as a free agent, allowing for his career to really take off in Mike D’Antoni’s fast paced offensive system. We wont even mention Nash’s tenure as a Laker, since that basically consisted of him robbing them of 3 year/$28 million deal, with no ski-mask. Most people think that Nash was already retired, but he’s still on the Lakers books for $9.8 million for the 2014-15 season.
Nash finishes his career as the 3rd all-time leader in assists behind John Stockton, and Jason Kidd. Nash will undoubtedly go down as the best Canadian basketball player in NBA history, at least until Andrew Wiggins get’s his feet wet.
