The WWE has been in some controversy recently after allegations of abuse came to light aimed at their NXT developmental trainer, Bill Demott. WWE supposedly had an investigation and found no evidence of wrong doing by Demott. A small storm started brewing online as former developmental trainees came out confirming some of the abuse stories. Demott decided it was time to step down.
Via Twitter,
I deny the recent allegations made about me, however, to avoid any embarrassment or damage to the WWE, I’ve decided to step down from my role effective immediately.
DeMott had been accused by former NXT, FCW, and DSW talents of misconduct that included dangerous training drills, homophobic and racial slurs, bullying trainees, and condoning sexual harassment. While the WWE claimed to have found no wrongdoing I believe DeMott’s time was numbered as soon as the hashtag #FireDeMott started to trend on Twitter. For a company like the WWE who is so engrossed in their social media, this was something they just couldn’t have. So DeMott’s resignation may have been his choice, but could the WWE have helped nudge him in that direction?
