Ex-49ers and current Bears Ray McDonald was accused of domestic violence and then sexual assault. Police declined to charge him in either case and now the NFL has cleared him of one of them.
The NFL has confirmed that it investigated McDonald, who is now with the Bears, and cleared him of any violation of the personal-conduct policy.
“We have completed that [domestic-violence] investigation,” NFL general counsel Jeff Pash told the Associated Press Sports Editors. ‘‘[Special counsel for investigations] Lisa [Friel] and her team completed that investigation [and] did not establish a violation of the personal-conduct policy. We informed the player and the [NFL] Players Association.’’
In the domestic violence case his then pregnant fiancee who once pulled a gun on him was upset that he was flirting with women at a house party. There was an argument, police were called and McDonald was arrested, but after an investigation it was stated she was the aggressor and he didn’t hit or abuse her.
The NFL is still investigating his sexual assault charge.
