Sad news being reported by the Tuscaloosa News:
Former University of Alabama quarterback and Oakland Raiders great Kenny Stabler has passed away at the age of 69, The Tuscaloosa News has learned.
Before the second round draft choice led the Oakland Raiders to a 1977 World Championship and being named to the NFL Pro Bowl four times, Stabler starred at Alabama for three seasons (1965-1967) under legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.
Another case of one of the NFL’s best gone way too soon.
UPDATE:
The Tuscaloosa News has retracted their report of Ken Stabler’s death at this time.
Preparing to report on an unconfirmed but wide and persistent rumor that former Alabama football player Kenny Stabler had died, tuscaloosanews.com inadvertently and briefly published an incomplete story that we were preparing in the event that the story was confirmed. At this time, it is not confirmed. Unfortunately, other news outlets used social media to share the report. We regret the error and any emotional distress caused to Stabler’s family, friends and fans.
UPDATE:
Stabler’s family has now confirmed his death.
Family now confirms in a @facebook statement that @Raiders legendary QB #KenStabler has died.
