Fantasy Football 2015 is here and once again the questions about who to get in the first round lingers in everyone’s mind. Well I’m here to offer a little clarity when it comes to the FIRST round and the prized running backs.
In most leagues, you have to have 2 runnings backs, which is a task sometimes due to the amount of passing offenses in the NFL right now. However with the 1st round this season, there a few running backs that you must grab if they are on the board if you want to win a championship in the end.
8 out of the top 10 fantasy players as ranked by NFL.com fantasy, are running backs. That is something to think about. In the past few years, running backs have been on a decline overall in the NFL. However this season, the top tier running backs have risen to the top of everyone’s fantasy radars due to their productive seasons last year.
My advice for you guys at home is this:
DRAFT A RUNNING BACK IN THE 1st ROUND!
Trust me, pick up the RB in the 1st because you will need at least one productive running back to win in every league you’re in. Whether its Marshawn Lynch( 265 points in ’14), Adrian Peterson( suspended last season), Demarco Murray (294 points in ’14) or Jamaal Charles( 210 points in ’14), you will be getting you a running back that will at least average 85 yards and a touchdown per game.
My advice if you have a mid pick, is to grab Matt Forte. Matt Forte gets carries and catches, and is a focal point in the Bears offense, with the loss of Brandon Marshall at WR. Last season, Forte was fourth among all running backs with 244.6 fantasy points and is poised to lead the running backs again with the way the Bears offense is set up.
Le’veon Bell (287 points in ’14) is ranked No. 1 but will be missing 2 games due to suspension. Depending on your personal preference, you can draft Bell No.1 – No. 4 if he’s there, and grab a RB, like Alfred Morris of the Redskins, or Jeremy Hill of the Bengals in the second, and you’ll be able to sustain the first two games of the season.
Now I know you’re thinking, well when do I get a QB or WR? Well when it comes to QB, if it’s not Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning, it does not benefit you to draft a QB in the first round.
There are simply more than enough QBs that can sustain you, that are not named Rodgers in the NFL. You can find great QB talent in the 3rd – 5th rounds, in the form of Lions QB Matthew Stafford( 251 points in ’14), Falcons QB Matt Ryan( 284 points in ’14) , New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees( 302 points in ’14) and especially Russell Wilson( 327 points in ’14), who is one of the most underrated fantasy QBs out there.
But I’ll cover QB in more depth, in addition to the WR position in another article, so stay tuned.
Back to the RB spot, the moral of the story is this, get a RB in the 1st round. With the way the top 10 RBs score TDs and rushing yards, its going to be pivotal to snag one.
