Last night’s SummerSlam presented by WWE had a ton of hype and a lot to live up to following an incredible NXT:Takeover special the night before. With a card stacked with TEN matches on a four-hour show, WWE pulled out all the stops to deliver an incredibly memorable show featuring a controversial finish in the main event. Let’s take a look at what went down.
Taker Controversially Gets His Win Back
Jon Stewart is backstage looking to confront Brock Lesnar about ending Takers streak, and he knocks on Lesnar’s lockerrom door but Heyman opens the door and Stewart says he’s an Undertaker guy. They banter about the streak being amazing. Stewart says people talk about how people remember streaks, not people who ended it (which yeah doesn’t apply here Jon). Stewart asks Heyman if he was happy that all the fans were disappointed when Lesnar won and Heyman starts singing the Brock Lesnar song from Monday Night because of course.
Awesome video package about the feud plays with WWE Superstars commentary spliced in to get us all hyped for our main event. This is also a great way to remind us that Paul Heyman is absolutely amazing at what he does.
Lesnar is out first to a massive pop from the crowd and Suplex City is in the building. We’re reminded that Lesnar hasn’t been pinned or submitted since Wrestlemania 29 (by Triple H because of course) before the light’s go out and the gong hits. The Dead Man makes his way out and I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s all chills right now. Who knows how many more of these entrances we have left, definitely have to enjoy every last one of them.
It’s worth noting that Lesnar looks anything but intimidated by Takers entrance, if anything he looks eager to get this thing going and that is a good sign for the rest of us.
And on cue, Lesnar attacks Taker with knees and a clothesline before the match can even start.
Taker answers back with some haymakers of his own and a big boot followed by a clothesline that sends Lesnar over the top rope and out of the ring!
Usually we see guys jump at Lesnar but this time Brock tried to get a quick start and he stalks the ring as the crowd is going insane.
The match is officially underway and Lesnar spears Taker to take him down before driving elbows to his face but Taker counters with four or five straight rights to the jaw of Lesnar and the Beast is stunned!
Dueling “Suplex City! Undertaker!” chants should tell you how split the crowd is as Taker grabs Lesnar’s arm and heads up top to go old-school but Lesnar grabs him off the rope and goes for an F-5! Taker counters and goes for a chokeslam but Lesnar reverses and spears him into the corner.
Taker counters with a boot but Lesnar hits a belly-to-belly suplex and we’ve now entered Suplex City folks.
Lesnar picks Taker up and hits his first German suplex before yelling “SUPLEX CITY BITCH!” to an approving crowd.
Lesnar picks Taker up and tries another but Taker dives under the turnbuckle and Lesnar’s head bounces off the second buckle to stun the Beast.
Loud “TAKER!” chants now and the Dead Man hits Snake Eyes in the corner and follows it up with a big boot that sends Lesnar out of the ring.
Taker drives Lesnar into the barricade as we see that the Beast Incarnate is already busted open . Taker drives Lesnar into the side of the ring and rolls him on his back on the apron. Taker climbs the steps looking for his patented leg drop and nails Lesnar.
The crowd explodes at the throwback move but Taker is winded as he makes it back into the ring to “YOU STILL GOT IT!” chants. Taker and Lesnar exchange jabs before Taker picks the Beast up for a chokeslam but Lesnar counters and takes us right back to Suplex City!
TWO!
Lesnar picks up Taker and yells Suplex City Bitch again as we are up to three now. Taker tries to get to his feet but Lesnar picks him up and hits another German suplex.
FOUR!
Lesnar dances in the ring while Taker rolls to the outside, so the Beast follows him. More dueling “SUPLEX CITY! UNDERTAKER!” chants as Lesnar takes the announce table apart but Taker catches him with an elbow to regain control. Taker tries to hit the Last Ride, but Lesnar counters and hits Taker with an F-5 through the announce table!
The ref begins his count and somehow Taker gets back in the ring just before the count of 10 and Lesnar’s face is covered in blood and shock. Lesnar yells “I’ll kill you you son of a bitch!” at Taker as the Dead Man struggles to even crawl into the ring.
Lesnar picks Taker up and the Dead Man tells him hes’ gonna have to before somehow hitting Lesnar with a MASSIVE chokeslam!
LOOK AT THE HEIGHT ON THAT CHOKESLAM!
Taker is somehow back to his feet and both men are stunned. Taker picks up Lesnar and hits a Tombstone in the center of the ring!
1-2-LESNAR KICKS OUT!!!
These guys are both clearly spent but the match goes on. Lesnar sits up and now he’s laughing at Taker, and Undertaker sits up in old-school fashion and laughs back at Lesnar!!!
Awesome moment as the two begin exchanging rights! Lesnar starts spearing Taker into the corner and has the Kimora locked in the corner!
The ref for some reason isn’t counting at all, but Taker reverses and hits Lesnar with a Last Ride!
1-2-AND LESNAR KICKS OUT AGAIN!!!
Taker has no idea what he has to do at this point and again both men are down. Both men back to their feet and Lesnar picks Taker up for an F-5! 1-2-AND NOW TAKER KICKS OUT!
Lesnar says you’ve got to be kidding me and now the Beast looks pissed. Now it’s Lesnar’s turn to figure out what the hell he has to do to put his opponent away and he looks like he has an idea. Lesnar picks up Taker and hits ANOTHER F-5 AND THE UNDERTAKER KICKS OUT AGAIN!!!!
This match has already far exceeded all expectations and it’s STILL GOING. Lesnar slow to his feet as Taker starts wheezing and TAKER LOCKS IN HELLS GATE OUT OF NOWHERE IN THE CENTER OF THE RING!
Lesnar is trying to hang on for dear life with nowhere to go, but the Beast throws Taker off and locks the Kimora in on Taker in the center of the ring!
Taker has absolutely nowhere to go and this may just be a matter of time! Taker reverses into a pin and at 1 the bell somehow rings and the ref starts yelling that he didn’t call for the bell! Heyman is yelling that Taker tapped out but Taker lowblows Lesnar and locks in Hell’s Gate!
Lesnar is bleeding profusely as Taker has it locked in! THE MATCH IS APPARENTLY STILL GOING ON!
Heyman is yelling that Taker already tapped as Lesnar flips Taker off before passing out in Hell’s Gate and now the ref calls for the bell!
YOUR WINNER BY SUBMISSION… THE UNDERTAKER!
The announce team is saying there is a ton of controversy and apparently the time keeper saw Taker tap and rang the bell but the official missed it counting Takers pin attempt.
Heyman is yelling that Taker tapped out as Lesnar starts to realize what happened and if I’m the ref I’m getting out of the ring immediately.
We go to a replay and clearly see Taker tapping to the Kimora but the official wasn’t able to see it and Taker takes home the win.
Heyman angrily goes to the bell and starts ringing it repeatedly before grabbing a mic. Heyman yells “NO!” repeatedly and says he saw it, the timeskeeper saw it and everyone else saw it. Heyman then names Lesnar the winner by tap-out submission as the Beast smirks in the middle of the ring and well, he has a damn good point. Heyman might be right, but if the official doesn’t see it, well it doesn’t matter.
We go off the air with Lesnar celebrating and yelling that we know damn well he won that match.
Something tells me this isn’t the end of this feud.
Unbelievable match between these two Legends and Taker gets his win back!
It will be very interesting to see if Taker will be able to have a rubber match with Lesnar, especially after video surfaced of the Dead Man collapsing as he went backstage. If that was indeed his final match, what a way to go out.
