Once Whitlock was demoted and essentially removed from The Undefeated, the website that was designed to handle stories about race, culture and sports, the writing was on the wall.
Whitlock wasn’t fired, in the traditional sense. According to SI.com, he was bought out of his contract very similar to an NBA player. Instead of having him hang around until his contract ended, they just paid him a lump sum to end the relationship.
So, Whitlock got paid really well for his two years with ESPN even if he didn’t do that much while he was there.
Whitlock is now a free agent where he is expected to sign on with FS1 who similar to the WWE are bringing in older known personalities instead of fresh voices to bolster their lineup (remember Regis Philbin).
As fair as The Undefeated no word on when or if the site will ever launch.
