This is absolutely great news for the city for Greensboro, North Carolina. The Charlotte Hornets have decided that Greensboro will be the home of their new NBA Development League franchise, which is set to begin in the fall of 2016. The two cities are a little more than 80 miles apart and seems to be a perfect location to develop some potential NBA stars.
The Hornets announced in May their intentions to have a D-League franchise that would be based in the Carolinas. There were seven potential locations and Greensboro won out with Asheville, Greenville, S.C., and Fayetteville, N.C. as finalists.
A formal announcement is expected as early as Tuesday. This news was first reported by Greensboro News and Record.
