Insider Buzz: Redskins and Kirk Cousins have “huge divide” in their contract talkshttps://t.co/zSj4VgRKda

With NFL contracts you have to ignore the dollar amount.
It is easy to say Cousins is crazy for turning down $18 million a year, but this isn’t the NBA, it isn’t guaranteed money and it is the structure that is causing Cousins to balk at the deal.
Many NFL contracts have these HUGE dollar amounts attached to them, but once you break them down you realize they aren’t really that big.
Colin Kaepernick isn’t going to get $100 million, Michael Vick once signed a $100+ million contract with the Eagles and got about 30% of that.
It is possible and I have been told it is the structure of the contract is a problem for Cousins. The current contract doesn’t have a lot of guaranteed money and gives the Redskins a lot of flexibility to cut him sooner than later if he is indeed a bust.
Smart on Redskins part, but also the reason Kirk is willing to play a bit of chicken with them.
Everything isn’t what it seems with NFL contracts.
