The Memphis Grizzles have officially began their coaching search, and one of the first calls that they made was to former Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel, according to Yahoo Sports.
The preliminary stages of Memphis’ search to replace Dave Joeger include Vogel, who used the weekend to decompress after losing his job to Larry Bird and the Pacers on Thursday. Vogel plans to start evaluating head coaching opportunities early this week, sources say.
Memphis has started reaching out to organizations, seeking permission to interview the candidates that are on their list, which includes former Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornaek, Spurs assistant Ettore Messina, and Hornets associate head coach Patrick Ewing among others.
The Grizzlies candidate list will grow longer in the coming days, as they’ve been describing to people that they want to find a coach who can build a program and a culture around their stars Marc Gasol and free agent Mike Conley.
