SMU wants their athletes to get the best training possible and in order to do that in modern day, you want to have state-of-the art facilities.
Announced on Tuesday, SMU says they are spending $150 million to upgrade their indoor and outdoor facilities via press release.

SMU could be doing the new facilities to put their name in the hat to join the Big 12 conference since they are looking to expand and teams like Houston, Cincinnati, and BYU from the AAC have been mentioned.
