Falsely Accused of Rape Brian Banks Speaks on Brock Turner’s White Privilege (Video)

brian_banks

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know the name Brock Turner. The former Stanford swimmer convicted of rape and sentenced to six months in prison. You may not know Turner has only served half of his sentence and is set to be released today.

Brian Banks, a former high school football star who had his career derailed due to serving five years in prison for a false rape accusation has spoken about Turner in the past. Given the light sentence and Turner’s early release, Banks believes it’s time to address privilege and sentencing inequality. He was a guest on CNN Newsroom last night and listen to what he had to say.

The Turner sentencing and early release has to hit home so hard for Banks. He was accused of the same crime and served real jail time. Mind you, we know he never committed his crime but the inability of the criminal justice system to “view” Banks the same way they did Turner is where the injustice exists. Both men were young promising athletes but the justice system decided prison would be a detriment to one and not the other.
