The Carmelo Anthony trade rumors continue to swirl and intensify. The teams that we’ve heard include the Clippers and Cavs. We already know the Cavs deal was a non starter (rejected by Cavs), and the Clippers are still trying to make it work. But a third team has emerged. According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, the Celtics are a team Melo would also waive his no trade clause for.
The Celtics were one of the early teams mentioned when the trade rumors began but nobody was sure if Melo would consider Boston. The other issue in Boston is that support for Melo is divided, with a source indicating:
Celtics coach Brad Stevens would embrace coaching Anthony, but president of basketball operations Danny Ainge has rejected any deal.
Melo is due well over $26M and has a sizable trade bonus. Any team that takes him own is seriously going to limit their cap flexibility. Plus there is the whole meshing on the court thing. As much as Phil Jackson wants to move Melo, this is going to take some serious maneuvering and possibly a third team.
