While Mike D’Antoni’s Houston Rockets are trying to advance in this year’s Western Conference, he had the opportunity to open up about something that has to do with his exit out of New York. He revealed that Carmelo Anthony had something to do with it.
Mike D’Antoni spent a good amount of time in New York and departing from the Knicks had a little something to do with an ultimatum. His main concern right now is Houston beating the Spurs but he had a few minutes to chime on his Knicks departure. He spoke to ESPN about how Carmelo Anthony was involved in this decision.
In New York in 2012, after Anthony said the team needed to choose between him and D’Antoni, Mike made it easy.
“I just went in and quit,” he says.
“Don’t say ‘quit,’” Laurel says. “I hate that word. You resigned. You walked away. Mutually walked away.”
Mike rolls his eyes and turns to me.
“I quit,” he says.
Its a pretty bold move to choose to leave rather than fight but nonetheless, D’Antoni is in the playoffs while the Knicks season ended about a month ago.
