I am going to go out on limb and say that this GM has a MAGA hat somewhere in his home.
Even though he is trying to be politically correct he can’t hide his personal disdain for Colin Kaepernick, but he was too much of a coward to attach his name to this Sporting News piece.
My caution — and I think it is echoed by nearly everyone I’ve talked to — is that he’s become a distraction. At this point, the way he’s handled it, the way he’s tweeting and all that garbage, it doesn’t help.”
He’s become a distraction in a place where winning is foremost. It is an issue of mentality, personality. I think it boils down to maturity.
“Why would you bring in a guy who could split a locker room? As a quarterback, you’re supposed to be a leader, the one guy who can bridge divides.”
But look at the baggage he brings. If you’re an established team, you don’t want that coming in. There’s a perception he’d kill a locker room because he’s such a distraction. He’s not worth the risk given the baggage.
I go back to his comments and social media and all that — it isn’t what you want from anyone in your locker room. Especially not when you want your quarterback to lead.
The GM admits that Kaepernick should be playing in the league and is a good quarterback, which just makes the comments even worse.
Those social media comments made by Kaepernick normally were sparked when a black person laid dying in the street. I wouldn’t call speaking out on that garbage.
The GM never speaks to any of the positive work that Kaepernick has done nor how his teammates awarded him with the highest honor one could give to a teammate.
Remember you can punch a woman, get arrested multiple times and still play in NFL, but if you speak up for black people that is consider “baggage” by the NFL.
