The NFL kicks-off tonight in Foxborough and Roger Goodell will be in attendance. The last time Goodell was in attendance was for the 2015 AFC Championship game, deflate gate.
Goodell was in attendance for a preseason opener on August 10, but that was a meaningless game.
Fans in New England aren’t fond of Goodell, and the cameras will not be on Goodell for as much for that reason. His pregame will be as usual but he will be off the field early, before the fans begin to roll in.
Goodell won’t be sitting with Patriots owner Robert Kraft, even though in the preseason he made a quick appearance.
NBC will cover Goodell’s return to Foxborough, a network spokesperson said,
“We will show the commissioner during coverage of the game, and cover any related news appropriately.”
While the media is trying to make things go smooth, the fans are amping it up. Barstool spent $140,000 for 70,000 rally towels, printed with an image of Goodell’s face with a clown nose.
Roadplates.com, a storage facility, donated space to store over 200 cardboard boxes stuffed with 300 rally towels each.
Wednesday Barstool gave out 60,000 towels and will give another 10,000 from Barstool’s RV at a car dealership just a few miles from the stadium.
#OperationClownFace is a go and remember when Matt Patricia wore the t shirt after the Super Bowl win, yeah Goodell wasn’t and still isn’t happy about that.
Barstool founder Dave Portnoy gives the reasoning behind this,
“This idea was really based on the ongoing story that Goodell was actually bothered by the shirt,” All Patriot fans despise Goodell. It’s not like time has healed wounds.”
The goal here is quite simple, to piss off Goodell, and considering the fans sold 60,000 towels on Wednesday in one hour, this is going to be very interesting.
The hate for Goodell is clear and can be witnessed tonight, the camera crews can’t stop this one as Goodell is walking into an ambush of clown themed towels.
Portnoy leaves us with this,
“The added exposure—that’s not what we’re looking for. We just hate Roger Goodell, and if we can get 70 percent of the stadium waving it, I know he knows what it is, and it’s just a victory for Barstool and Pats fans.”
