Do you remember the 2007 NBA Draft? If you don’t Greg Oden went number one overall to the Portland Trailblazers.
Oden had a promising career but injuries derailed him. There was also a 7’0 small forward, Kevin Durant who went second overall to the Seattle SuperSonics, now they’re the Oklahoma City Thunder.
In 2013, KD was fed up tired of being the second best player on the planet after losing to the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. KD said in a Sports Illustrated feature,
“I’ve been second my whole life,” the Oklahoma City Thunder star told SI. “I was the second-best player in high school. I was the second pick in the draft. I’ve been second in the MVP voting three times. I came in second in the Finals. I’m tired of being second. I’m not going to settle for that. I’m done with it.”
KD has won his first NBA title with the Golden State Warriors and is still second unfortunately but he’s closer than ever to LeBron James. This year for the first time KD is number one, well at least in LeBron James eyes. For the NBA All-Star game, the top two players with the most votes were captains and got to draft their All-Star teams, I.E, Steph Curry and LeBron.
Here’s the video of KD jokingly being excited because he was the first overall pick in the NBA All-Star Draft. Sorry, Portland y’all truly missed out on a gem…
