The May 5th rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is officially off but that isn’t stopping GGG’s promoter Tom Loeffler from going on with the show and putting on a May 5th fight card in Las Vegas.
Once it became all but clear that Canelo would withdraw from the fight, as a result of testing positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol and the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s subsequent suspension, middleweights from every corner have been raising their hand with the hopes of being selected while Loeffler coyly alluded over social media that a fighter was already warming up in the proverbial bullpen.
As of now, there has been no announcement of a replacement and the speculation as to who will slide into that spot is reaching a fevered pitch.
