If you look at a map of the current locations of MLB teams, you’ll notice how scarce it is in the West. Now, Russell Wilson & Ciara have partnered up with Portland Diamond Project to bring a major league team to Portland, Oregon.
When this news dropped, my baseball spidey senses went off because of how exciting this is. If the front office doesn’t want to contribute to the necessary change needed in the league, we’ll do it our own way. Russell Wilson and Ciara are climbing the ladder of power couple. By adding this move of wanting to bring an MLB team to Portland, Oregon, they just became even more well-rounded. Right now, the league is divided evenly- 15 teams on both the National League and the American League. Which division could the new team belong to?
Is Portland ready for a baseball team? I sure think that city is ready for baseball. MLB commish Robert Manfred did shine light on wanting to expand to 32 teams recently.
Honored and excited to welcome Russell Wilson and Ciara as owner/investors in Portland Diamond Project. Looking forward to working together to make MLB in Portland a reality. @dangeRussWilson @ciara #MLBtoPDX #PortlandDiamondProject #MLB #Baseball #Portland pic.twitter.com/XSOdrvwHiQ

“No financial details were announced, but a source said all partners in the venture split the costs equally for the effort. If MLB were to award the city an expansion franchise, those involved in the project would naturally be the favorites to be owners. It would be more complicated if a current team with an existing owner moved to town. The Portland Diamond Project was formally announced last month. It is led by former Nike executive Craig Cheek, who got to know Wilson when the quarterback signed his endorsement deal with the brand. The plan is to acquire land in the area and begin the process of building a ballpark.”
Another solution I could offer is to move the New York Mets to Portland. Citifield recently had a fire in their memorabilia section and perhaps that’s a sign on wanting out of New York.
In the meantime, enjoy some Wilson baseball highlights.
