President Donald Trump has made it clear that he is against NFL players kneeling during the national anthem as he feels it’s disrespectful to the country. As many have explained, the protest is not to disrespect the country nor the soldiers who fight for our freedom, but to bring awareness to police brutality towards minors in the country. There have been debates if there should be disciplinary action within the NFL even though it’s the First Amendment.
Trump has gone far enough to peer pressure the NFL to change the rules. Now, the “visit the White House” for sports team who won a championship has changed as well. Per reports from NBC Sports, Trump canceled the 2018 Super Bowl Champions trip to the White House. When Trump made his “professional” statement on Twitter, FOX News displayed clips of the Philadelphia Eagles players kneeling during the anthem to amp it up.
This wasn’t the case.
Eagles players Chris Long and Zach Ertz went on Twitter and bashed FOX News for assuming they were kneeling as protest when they were really praying. In fact, no Eagles player kneeled during the 2017 season.
The executive producer Christopher Wallace made a statement about the bad assumption:
“During our report about President Trump canceling the Philadelphia Eagles trip to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win, we showed unrelated footage of players kneeling in prayer. To clarify, no members of the team knelt in protest during the national anthem throughout regular or postseason last year. We apologize for the error.”
