The sports excitement in Toronto isn’t done just yet. After all eyes in North America watched Toronto collapse itself at the parade of the decade once the final confetti had been swept up and all the garbage got safely deposited the OTHER sports team in Toronto had some news worth grabbing a headline.
The just turned 20-year-old son of a legend seems to be the single depository for any and all Blue Jays hope. The news that Guerrero has decided to participate in the 2019 Home Run Derby is the first news that has gotten Jays fans out of their seat since Jose Bautista’s great bat flip of 2015.
Guerrero currently hitting .247 with 7 HR’s has been a player it feels like the Jays have been pressured into forcing along, as the only star on a team in the darkest days of a rebuild. In an interview on the MLB Network back in February GM Ross Atkins mentioned that the club needed to have an “established foundation” for the then 19-year-old prospect before putting him into the big leagues.
To think just 4 months later that he is now ready to be on one of the biggest stages in baseball seems to be just a little bit on the panic side.
After attending a game this past week, when Guerrero was presented with a bases-loaded opportunity you can already feel the entire building re-focus as their soon to be Superstar had a chance to get a career highlight already on the board. The at-bat was unsuccessful and you can only hope the disappointment in the air isn’t magnified on July 8th.
