Sad news has surfaced from the NY Post, that former NL CY Young winner Dwight “DOC” Gooden was busted last month in New Jersey for possession of cocaine.
The Mets hall of famer arrested back on June 7th by Holmdel Police. The Monmouth Prosecutor’s Office said Dwight was pulled over and had “two, small green zip-lock style plastic baggies containing suspected cocaine”. Gooden was charged with third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and he was ticked for driving under the influence.
This is the latest episode of Doc’s well documented battle with a cocaine addiction. Very sad that his addiction has shaded what was a great pro career. Dwight Gooden was sent to rehab in 1987 right after the Mets won the World Series. In 1995 Dwight was suspended for the entire season after failing multiple drug tests. Most recently Gooden was arrested in 2010, for a car crash in New Jersey while driving his 5 year old son to school, he was under the influence of drugs.
Dwight said he had been sober since 2016 but must’ve relapsed. Drug addiction should be taken very seriously and hopefully Dwight can find some help and better yet help himself.
