Jr Smith has been Pretty much M.I.A since the finals of 2018. He played a total of 11 games last year and only started 4 of them. There has been a lot of speculation as to where he might end up. Rumors of Cleveland trading him, waiving or buying him out has been amongst the talks of the NBA offseason.
The biggest rumor was the Lakers maybe trading for him. Since Lebron left Cleveland for L.A last year, it’s not a stretch to believe that JR wouldn’t be right behind him. Either way it seems as though those rumors have been killed as Adrian Woj (per ESPN) has reported that the Lakers are not looking at JR as an option after the Cavs Waived Him.
There seems to be a mixed reaction to JR Smith’s status. Some Cleveland fans will miss him because of his personality and antics off the court. On the other hand, no one will forget what he did in game 1 of the 2018 finals in the closing seconds. Cleveland is clearly trying to rebuild their franchise post Lebron and JR Smith simply doesn’t fit their vision.
