It is an uphill battle for Shawn Porter.
Errol Spence Jr. has almost every advantage of Porter, but it isn’t impossible for Porter to win. The main thing is that Porter will have to fight a perfect fight to win.
Here are the three things that he must to do have a chance.
1- Greg Maddux
Spence is expecting one or two things from Porter. Either for him to bum rush him or to try to box him. Either way, Spence would have advantages if Porter specifically stuck to one strategy.
Which is why I feel like he has to be like Greg Maddux. Maddux was a master at changing speeds where he could make an 89 MPH fast look like a 100 MPH. Porter has to attack when Spence is expecting him to box and box when Spence thinks he is going to attack. He has to vary has the attack to the point Spence is confused and hesitant on his approach.
An example of this when he does bull rush, whereas in the past he might have done it for a full 30 seconds, maybe do 15 seconds and then get out. In and out, left and right, aggressive and passive, it is imperative he switches styles often.
